About metis analytica

metis analytica is a société à taille humaine — a French expression that goes beyond simply “small company.” It describes a firm where every client relationship is direct, every engagement is personal, and no one gets lost in corporate layers.

Based in Paris, France, we work with corporate R&D and innovation teams navigating complex technology landscapes — helping them move forward with clarity, confidence, and the right data at their fingertips.

Born out of a real need

TechLand didn’t begin as a product. It began as a limitation.

During his PhD at Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, Altay Ozaygen spent long days, weeks working directly with PATSTAT, the European Patent Office’s large-scale patent database. Extracting meaningful insights required writing SQL queries, adjusting them, running them again — over and over.

The real challenge wasn’t just technical. It was methodological.

Understanding a technology landscape is inherently iterative. You start with an idea, test it, refine it, expand it, narrow it again. Each step requires balancing recall and precision, exploring different angles, and questioning your own assumptions. But the tools available made this process slow, rigid, and difficult to sustain.

What should have been an exploratory process became constrained by the tools themselves.

TechLand emerged from that gap — not as a predefined product, but as a solution reflecting the required working approach.

Founder

Altay began his career after leaving a PhD program in materials engineering, moving into IT — first as a UNIX/Linux system administrator, and then progressively toward data and research.

His PhD in management, completed at Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, added another dimension: understanding how organisations make decisions, allocate resources, and shape innovation strategies.

This combination — engineering, systems, and management research — forms the foundation of metis analytica . TechLand reflects the breadth of this intersection.

What we believe

We believe that understanding technology is not a one-shot analysis, but a process — iterative, exploratory, and sometimes uncertain.

It is also a fundamentally social process. Technology does not evolve in isolation: it is shaped by interactions between experts from different fields, by exchanges between engineers, researchers, and decision-makers, and by the collective effort to define meaningful directions and strategies.

Good decisions come from clarity, not volume — from refining the signal, not accumulating noise.

Our role is to be part of that process: working alongside our clients, contributing to their thinking, and helping turn complex information into shared understanding and actionable strategy. This is what société à taille humaine means in practice — being close enough to collaborate, not just to deliver.
